Hi Dick, I had the pleasure of working with you and Stuart back in the days when 3 wheels became 4 and we ventured into the world of Cosworths and RS Turbo's. Hope you are all well. What happened to Paul and Simon, did they not get the bug to follow your footsteps. Would be nice to hear from you and the lads. Diddy

Hi Malc, have been off line for a while, good to hear from you. Yes back to Scantlebury for the last year-long story. Live with Mum back at Cassel Ave. Mum is in poor health, not bad for 83 though. Jill and I had a great time at Mallory in October, but only ones I remembered were Dick Hawes and poor Roy Hanks. Mick popped up on the Sunday and said hello. Hows life treating you?

My dad new Fritz Scheidegger I remember as a little girl going to watch him race and be in the pit lane with him and my dad chatting in Swiss German - my father was a motor mechanic, I would sit on his sidecar and ask if I could be his passenger when I grew up - remeber seeing the report of his death at Mallory on the news - we were suppose to be meeting up with him the next day - very sad

Dick, So glad I found this website. I am now a 44 yr old who grew up from 3 year old, with my Dad at Mallory, Oulton, Darley Moor etc..Its TT time & we were remembering the old days. Dad..still alive & 70 this year, used to park us up on the 'real' Knickerbrook, or Lake Essse's at 8.00 in the morning..whatever the weather..still doing it today athough not quite so early. But after the big name solos of the day were done, we always enthralled at what I still perceive today to be the bravest guys.

The 1978 sidecar race was held in heavy rain, Alain Michel won and Rolf Biland was second in the BEO with Kenny Williams in the chair.
It was a good day for the Brits with Jock Taylor 3rd, Bill Hodgkins 4th, George O'Dell 5th and Mick Boddice 6th.
Dick and Gordon Russell finished 8th.

I enjoyed reading this and like you thought that worms were the end as has proved to be the
case.I go back to the "Hang out the front days" when I used to "monkey" for Des Founds on a Rumble outfit. I am glad to see the outfits still get a go in classic racing.

Hello Dick
For the truth of the History, I inform you that the Great Dieter Busch made an outfit for the Vannest brothers in 1978 with a Suzuki RG500 engine.
I should say that Dieter is a shining star in the darkness of the life: with the exception of my two sons, he is the best man I ever met.
Yours faithfully
